Gathering around to watch a festive film has to be one of the best parts of the Christmas season.

Over the four weekends in the lead up to Christmas, Mayfield Manchester will be transformed into a pop up cinema venue showing classic films, plus street food and lashings of festive cheer.

Enter the railway arch through a Narnia-inspired wardrobe and emerge into a magical enchanted forest where a festive cinema will be found.

Movie fans will be greeted by a live choir singing carols and festive songs as they step through the wardrobe of fur coats.

Father Christmas and festive elves will welcome guests as they step through the wardrobe of fur coats and photo opportunities will be available in the magical enchanted forest which includes a 14ft Christmas tree surrounded by snow drifts, snow dusted pine trees, Victorian lamp posts, and an igloo.

The festive film programme includes The Greatest Showman, Love Actually, The Holiday, Elf, Gremlins, The Polar Express, Home Alone, Home Alone 2, Die Hard, and Santa Claus The Movie.

Many of the screenings will be accompanied by live music and dance performances, to create a unique and immersive experience.

There will also be sing-along showings to the smash-hit film, Greatest Showman.

The screening of the yuletide feel-good favourite, Love Actually, will be accompanied by a live gospel choir.

Plus, there'll be more festive favourites such as Home Alone, The Holiday, Elf, Die Hard, The Polar Express and Gremlins during the two Christmas classics week.

Seating in the cinema will include big comfy bean bags to relax in.

Attendees are encouraged to dress warmly for the event but can look forward to snuggling in warm blankets to watch the films.

The blankets will be donated to the city's homeless following the final screening.

Local street food traders will be on hand to provide food at all screenings, including dim sum, burgers, doughnuts, candy floss and popcorn. Plus, there'll be Christmas cocktails, hot chocolate and mulled wine.

Outside the venue on Temperance Street, there will be festive installations to welcome guests.

Event organiser Steven Matthews said: "Last Christmas Love Actually appeared in the same location, that was huge and really well received.

"This is something new for Manchester – it’s the first experience of its kind with an enchanted forest and everyone’s favourite festive flicks.

"Audiences can expect loads of surprises, and a totally unique experience."
