Location: Brookline, Massachusetts

Price: $38 million

Located just five miles outside of Boston, this stately property in Brookline, Massachusetts, was built to last generations.

In 1999, Paul Fireman, owner and founder of Reebok, hired Shope Reno Wharton architects to build his limestone mansion.

"He basically let the builders, contractors and everyone involved know he wanted the very best in whatever materials they were using," said George Sarkis of Douglas Elliman, who holds the listing with his brother Manny.

The home’s exterior was created with Indiana limestone, and the interior limestone was imported from Portugal, Mr. Sarkis said. Mr. Fireman also worked with his developer to search for a specific type of walnut to cover his first-floor office and billiards room, eventually sourcing the material from a barn in Pennsylvania.

Mr. Fireman didn’t just seek out the highest quality materials for their visual appeal, Mr. Sarkis said. He wanted a home that would last for years with minimal necessary upgrades.

"Paul told the builder he wanted it to be a timeless home where there could be longevity and stability," Mr. Sarkis said. "For example, the roof will never have to be replaced."

If desired, Mr. Sarkis said the home’s technology could be updated, but otherwise, he said the house is "flawless."

The property—which is the most expensive single-family home listing in the Greater Boston Area, according to listing records—borders The Country Club, one of the most prestigious golf clubs in the world and the oldest in the U.S.

Mr. Sarkis said Mr. Fireman is selling this property to downsize, but he’s not moving far. His new home is only a mile away.

"That just shows how much he loves this neighborhood, that he believes in it," he said.

Stats

The 26,623-square-foot estate stands on seven acres of manicured grounds.

The home has a total of eight bedrooms, seven full bathrooms and five half-baths. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms are a part of the guest house above the main garage, which also has its own kitchen and living room.

Amenities

In addition to a heated four-car main garage, an additional garage was built under the home to house another six to eight cars. Mr. Sarkis said this was designed for Mr. Fireman’s antique car collection, making it the perfect space for any avid car collector.

The master suite has its own private gym and massage room, and a spacious back patio overlooks the meticulously landscaped grounds.

Neighborhood Notes

Located less than five miles from downtown Boston, Brookline—which Mr. Sarkis said is "the Beverly Hills of Massachusetts"—offers both quick, easy access to the city and the privacy of a suburban setting.

But Mr. Sarkis said residents don’t have to venture downtown to dine and shop.

"You can stay within the town and still get top-tier five star restaurants and five star shopping," he said. "Then, if you wanted to take that extra 15 minutes to downtown, it’s convenient."
