NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans District Attorney’s Office says a man has been indicted in connection with a fatal shooting in the city’s central business district last summer.

Leon Cannizzaro’s news release says Quan Charles, a 19-year-old Marine Corps reservist, was charged Thursday with second-degree murder in the death of a 34-year-old father of four, May Francois.

The release says Francois was found with multiple gunshot wounds in a car that struck a downtown building the afternoon of Aug. 19. He died later at a hospital. Charles was arrested on Aug. 19.

If convicted on the murder charge, Charles would face a mandatory life sentence. He's also charged with obstruction of justice, carrying a possible 40-year sentence.

Charles, jailed on $550,000 bond, has not entered a plea.
