Massachusetts police officer rushes into a burning home, saves man inside

A police officer from one Massachusetts town is being praised for rushing into a burning home and pulling a man to safety.

On Saturday, around 5:20 p.m., Dartmouth police responded to a fire at 17 Johnson St. There were reports that someone was trapped inside.

Dartmouth Police Detective Scott Brooks rushed inside the home and located an elderly man in the lower level of the ranch-style home. The detective escorted the man out of the home.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire, which was contained to a room on the upper level of the home.

Four children got out of the fire before officers and firefighters arrived, police said.

“This incident speaks perfectly as to the dedication of the officers (both uniform and plainclothes) of this department,” Dartmouth Police Chief Brian P. Levesque said. “Even if it means placing their own lives in danger, the top priority of the men and women of the Dartmouth Police Department is to protect and serve the members of the community by any means possible.”
