Connecticut man faces attempted murder and other charges after he allegedly stabs girlfriend in Easthampton home

EASTHAMPTON — A Hartford man faces attempted murder and other charges after he allegedly stabbed his 41-year-old girlfriend in the kitchen of her East Street home Saturday night.

The Daily Hampshire Gazette reported police were summoned to the home about 6:50 p.m. for a reported stabbing. The suspect answered the door and police found the woman slumped over the kitchen table with a severe laceration to her arm

She was taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

George Archer, 42, of Hartford, was arrested at the scene. During his arraignment Monday in Northampton District Court, a judge ordered that he be held pending a dangerousness hearing on Friday.

He is charged with attempted murder, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a family or household member, threat to commit murder, strangulation or suffocation, assault and battery causing serious bodily injury and intimidation of a witness.

The Gazette, citing police complaints, reported the victim told officers the stabbing occurred after Archer grabbed her by the neck during an argument over his use of her car. When she picked up a butter knife to defend herself, Archer allegedly stabbed her in the arm with another knife.

Archer was belligerent and uncooperative at the scene and a bail clerk ordered that he be held without bail when he refused to cooperate during his booking at the station, according to the news report.
