Five Boston area teenagers were arrested Tuesday for allegedly stealing fireworks in New Hampshire and then driving a stolen car to Massachusetts, police said.
An alert was issued by police in Seabrook, New Hampshire earlier in the day for a gray Ford Expedition that had reportedly been stolen from a Hertz car rental location in Boston, according to a statement from Massachusetts State Police.
Suspects who stole fireworks in the New Hampshire town were believed to be in the car, the state police said.
Around 5:23 p.m., Trooper Steven Culver spotted the stolen car in the southbound lanes of Interstate 93 north of Montvale Avenue in Woburn, state police said.
“Trooper Culver stopped the vehicle at a Gulf station on Montvale after it exited the highway,” state police said. “Trooper Culver detained the five occupants pending further investigation.”
Fireworks, including aerial shells and Roman candles, were seized from the car, according to authorities.
The teenagers who were arrested included Jamaun Coakley-Thomason, an 18-year-old from Boston, Felix Ejiogu, a 19-year-old from Boston, as well as a 16-year-old boy from Cambridge, a 17-year-old boy from Boston and an 18-year-old man from Boston who police did not identify.
All five suspects were charged with possessing fireworks and stealing a car and property. They were booked at the state police barracks in Medford, according to law enforcement.
