Springfield shooting victim in stable condition; police search for shooter

SPRINGFIELD - A woman who drove herself to the hospital Monday night after being shot in the city’s McKnight neighborhood is in stable condition following surgery, police said.

She was rushed into surgery after arriving at Baystate Medical Center shortly after 9:15 p.m. Police so far have not yet been able to talk to her about what happened, police said.

The shooting was reported on St. James Avenue in the area of Dorchester Street.

She is believed to to have been driving in her car when she was struck, police said.

Detectives canvassed the area where the shooting was reported but could not find anyone who witnessed anything.

There have been no arrests, and it remains under investigation.
