Large hail, damaging winds possible Wednesday across Massachusetts

Showers and scattered thunderstorms are in the forecast for Massachusetts Wednesday, with the risk some storms may bring severe weather.

Damaging winds, large hail and rainfall are the primary threat, though the chance of a tornado cannot be ruled out, the National Weather Service said. Torrential downpours may produce localized flash flooding.

All of Massachusetts is at risk for the storm, though Central and Western Massachusetts are more likely to see the worst of it.

Two rounds of showers are expected Wednesday, one in the morning, then again in the afternoon and evening.

The risk for strong to severe thunderstorms is mainly between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. Wednesday, then should weaken through the remainder of the night.

It will be seasonably warm Wednesday - with highs in the mid-to-high 80s - and little break overnight, when temperatures will remain in the 70s and high 60s. Temperatures will rise into the 80s again Thursday.

Severe thunderstorms downed trees and power lines in multiple Massachusetts communities Monday.
