Tornado watch issued for Western Massachusetts Sunday

Update: The tornado watch was upgraded to a tornado warning for parts of Western Massachusetts.

A tornado watch has been issued for parts of Massachusetts Sunday.

The National Weather Service made the announcement Sunday afternoon. The watch was issued for Franklin, Berkshire, Hampden and Hampshire counties, according to the National Weather Service.

Parts of Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Vermont are also under the tornado watch which lasts until 10 p.m. Sunday.

The National Weather Service said a few tornadoes are possible in the watch areas along with isolated hail that could reach the size of a ping pong ball.

Scattered wind gusts could also reach up to 70 MPH.
