WIU Hoof and Horn hosts virtual livestock show
MACOMB — The Western Illinois University School of Agriculture’s Hoof and Horn hosted its first "Western Illinois University Change of Pace Jackpot Show" virtual livestock show from May 29 and 30.
The virtual livestock show was broadcast on the Walton Webcasting website. The sheep and goat shows were broadcast on May 29 while the swine show was broadcast on May 30. The sheep and goats each had their own show while the swine had two shows, one for gilts (female swine who have never given birth) and one for barrows (castrated male swine).
The virtual livestock show rules stipulated that the contestants must wear show attire and display the animal in the same way as a live livestock show. The video must be at least 60 seconds long in a horizontal format and filmed in 1080 p format.
The sheep show was judged by Tyler Homann. Four classes of sheep competed in the commercial ewes category while 12 classes in four divisions competed in the market lambs category. The entire sheep show can be watched on the Walton Webcasting website at https://bit.ly/36NpjgT
The goat show was judged by James Thompson. Twenty classes of goats competed in the virtual goat show in the breeding does (female goats who never gave birth), wether dams (female goats who gave birth to male goats) and market wether (castrated male goats) categories.
