Weleakinfo.com, a website that allegedly provided users with a search engine to access data obtained in data breaches, has been shut down by the FBI and U.S. Department of Justice, working with European authorities. 

The FBI executed a warrant last week, seizing the domain name and closing the site. 

The bureau was assisted by the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency, the Netherlands National Police Corps, the German Bundeskriminalamt (the Federal Criminal Police Office of Germany), and the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

According to the FBI, the website claimed to provide users with a search engine that allowed access to information obtained in over 10,000 data breaches exposing over 12 billion indexed records. Included were email addresses, user names, phone numbers and passwords for online accounts. 

Subscribers could obtain unlimited access for periods ranging from one day to three months, the FBI said.

A seizure banner now greets visitors to the site.

The warrant was issued by the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. 

The seizure was announced by U.S. Attorney Jessie K. Liu of the District of Columbia and Special Agent in Charge Timothy M. Dunham of the FBI’s Washington Field Office.
