Coronavirus: A second patient dies at Melton Hospital

A second patient with Covid-19 has sadly died at Melton Mowbray Hospital, it has been announced this afternoon (Friday).

Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust said a woman aged in her 80s, who had an underlying condition, died at the Thorpe Road hospital on Monday.

A man also aged in his 80s with an underlying condition who had tested positive for coronavirus passed away at Melton Hospital on May 5.

Today’s news follows an update that the number of Covid-19 related deaths of Leicestershire patients at city hospitals, where the most serious cases are treated, has passed 300.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Hospitals Trust said today: “Sadly, we can confirm that 305 patients being cared for at our hospitals, and who had tested positive for COVID-19, have died.

“Six of those deaths has been announced today.

“The ages of the patients range between those in their 50s to those in their 90s.

“Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of the patients at this very difficult and distressing time.”
