Two auto-burglary suspects were arrested and a third escaped Wednesday night after Fremont Police detectives witnessed an alleged car burglary in progress shortly before midnight at the 99 Ranch Market on Warm Springs Boulevard in Fremont.

When the officers tried to take the suspects into custody, one rammed the police cars with the car he was driving before the suspects took off running, according to Fremont Police Lieutenant Tom Severance.

A Union City Police K9 unit and California Highway Patrol helicopter also assisted with the search, according to Fremont police. The driver who allegedly rammed the police car was apprehended and will be booked on charges of assault with a deadly weapon. No one was injured, according to police.

The suspects were targeting vehicles with visible bags inside, according to police.
