CAMPBELL — 8×8 will shift its headquarters to Campbell and exit San Jose, successfully concluding a search for new head offices in Silicon Valley, the up-and-coming tech company said Monday.
Originally, in January 2018, 8×8 had leased headquarters space at a new office complex near San Jose International Airport, but within months, the cloud communications and software company realized it was on a trajectory to outgrow those spaces and began to scout for another location that would be spacious enough for its expansion needs.
“We have seen exciting momentum over the past 18 months across all areas of the business,” Vikram Verma, chief executive officer of 8×8, said Monday.
During the 12 months that ended in March, 8×8 lost $88.7 million on revenue $352.6 million, according to the Yahoo Finance site. Annual revenue increased by 18.9 percent.
“New customers across all business segments, two strategic acquisitions, compelling channel partner growth, and rapid hiring of employees around the globe to meet the needs of our customers” are among the primary examples of the company’s strong momentum, Verma said.
8×8 leased 178,000 square feet at 675 Creekside Way in Campbell. The lease deal was arranged by Newmark Knight Frank brokers Phil Mahoney, Todd Shaffer, and Mike Saign, as well as JLL brokers Andy Poppink and Derek Johnson.
“Campbell is excited to welcome 8×8 as the largest employer in our city upon their occupation of the space,” Campbell Mayor Rich Waterman said.
Based on typical ratios of office space and employees, 8×8 could potentially employ 900 to 1,200 people in the new Campbell headquarters site. 8×8 expects to begin moving into the new offices during the first three months of 2020.
“Our new global headquarters allows us to bring Bay Area employees together in a modern office facility,” Verma said. “It has ample room for us to expand as we continue to hire top industry talent to drive our ongoing revenue growth and innovative product solutions.”
The offices are in a building that’s part of the Creekside @ 17 complex that was developed by South Bay Development at the corner of Creekside Way and Hamilton Avenue in Campbell. The property also features a seven-story Marriott Hotel, according to a property brochure.
“We’re confident the Creekside facility will exceed expectations and be the perfect location for 8×8 for years to come,” Waterman said.
The new 8×8 offices will have a prominent location alongside Highway 17.
“With ample parking, 105 meeting rooms, various lounge and lunch areas, an executive briefing center, a fitness center, and game room, the new headquarters office boasts the space and amenities to host customers as well as retain and attract great talent to 8×8,” Verma said. “As a final strategic marketing advantage, the 8×8 signage on the building will be seen by more than 50,000 commuters each day.”
