A San Rafael man who allegedly threatened to burn his neighbor’s house down was arrested after a brief standoff with police.

The suspect, Gary Daniel Corvello, 52, was booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of criminal threats, dissuading a witness to call police and violating a court order. His bail is set at $500,000.

San Rafael police responded at around 11 a.m. Wednesday after a woman who lives on Union Street reported a dispute with her neighbor, whom she has a restraining order against. She alleged that the suspect threatened to burn her home and told her not to call authorities on him, police Lt. Dan Fink said.

“She was extremely fearful,” Fink said.

When police arrived, Corvello had locked himself in his home and was uncooperative. He eventually came out to his porch, Fink said.

Once police made the decision to take Corvello into custody, he ran back into his home and locked the door. Police broke through his front door to make the arrest, Fink said.

Corvello remained in custody at the jail on Friday.
