New York City is in the middle of its coronavirus peak, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The grim reminder of that prediction is seen in the images of a temporary interment of bodies at a City Cemetery and the remains of the dead being moved out of hospitals.

Amid that grim reality, images of the human spirit have emerged in the Big Apple. The Naked Cowboy was seen playing in Times Square while others have expressed appreciation for the medical workers keeping patients alive. Buildings in the city are lit up in blue in support of essential workers.

New Yorkers have been making an effort to flatten the curve by staying at home and wearing face masks. Cuomo said that the push is showing an effect despite the city hitting daily fatality records because of the virus. The photo gallery above shows the spirit of New York amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
