Local residents are invited to celebrate the completion of Stage 1 of the Eastern River Foreshore separated cycleway and pedestrian path with a Family Fun Day at Eric Primrose Reserve on Saturday 21 September from 10am-2pm.
Funded by a $1.25 million NSW Government's Stronger Communities Fund grant, Stage 1 of the project connects the newly upgraded Rydalmere ferry wharf with Eric Primrose Reserve and includes a new amenities block.
"As part of the Imagine Ermington campaign, residents told Council they wanted the existing foreshore pathway divided into separate pedestrian and cycle paths, so it's exciting to see the first stage of this project completed," City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Andrew Wilson said.
The Eastern River Foreshore pathway is a popular commuter route and recreation destination for pedestrians and cyclists alike. It provides a direct path to the Rydalmere ferry wharf and connects to the Parramatta Valley Cycleway.
"By creating separate pathways, Council is aiming to improve safety for both cyclists and pedestrians, as well as providing much needed public amenities in the area.
"Council takes great pride in delivering services and projects such as this one that benefit and meet the needs of the local community."
City of Parramatta Council has received an additional $1.44 million from the State Government to deliver Stages 2 and 3, with construction set to commence early next year.
Member for Parramatta Dr Geoff Lee said Parramatta is fast becoming the cycling capital of Western Sydney.
"We are building the best bike and pedestrian paths along the river and are listening to key groups in the community to prioritise, plan and extend pathways."
"The new cycleway and pedestrian paths will be fantastic for local residents who walk or ride to work or to enjoy and explore our beautiful area more safely," said Dr Lee.
Stages 2 and 3 will allow for separated walking and cycling path between Silverwater Bridge and Park Road. From there, cyclists can continue on to the Parramatta CBD, Sydney Olympic Park via the Silverwater Bridge, or Melrose Park.
The free Family Fun Day on Saturday 21 September includes a barbeque, free bike hire, face painting and a balloon artist.
