England captain Eoin Morgan has followed through with his declaration that he would drop himself from the side if need be.

Morgan has handed over captaincy duties to Jos Buttler for the 5th and final ODI against Sri Lanka with his team 3-0 up and on course for a whitewash.

And he has done it to accommodate all rounder Sam Curran who along with Mark Wood and Liam Plunkett plays in his first game of the series.

Wood and Plunkett were both expected replacements for Chris Woakes and Olly Stone, but Morgan's selfless act has allowed Curran to get involved too.

It will also mark a special day in the Curran household with Tom and Sam playing their very first international together after the 24 matches the pair have played individually.

They are the first pair of brothers to represent England since Adam and Ben Hollioake, also of Surrey, played together against Sri Lanka in Sydney in 1999.

Vice-captain of both the Test and white-ball sides Buttler has captained England several times before most memorably on the tour to Bangladesh that Morgan missed in 2016.

His previous experience didn't help him with the toss though as Sri Lanka chose to bat first and make the most of a terrific looking pitch.

Morgan has been in terrific form with the bat during the series hitting 195 runs across four innings for just once out, to make any questions about his place nonsensical.

But with so many matches in the series being disrupted by rain, there has been limited opportunities for some of the other batsmen to find any form.

Buttler for example has batted just once in the entire series scoring 28, while Moeen Ali has faced just one ball in four matches, admittedly it did get him out.

Morgan's decision to carry the drinks means that Buttler will move up to four in this game as well as taking the reins and keeping wicket which should make it a busy day for him.
