Manchester City are keen on signing Spanish goalkeeper Asier Riesgo on a free transfer this summer.

The 35-year-old is available on a free transfer after his contract with La Liga outfit Eibar expired.

The Sun reports that City are said to be considering a move for Riesgo having had to recall youngster Aro Muric from a loan spell to cover for Ederson last term after understudy Claudio Bravo suffered a season-ending injury.

Signing the Spanish stopper would allow Pep Guardiola to loan Muric out again this term as the Premier League champions look to give the 20-year-old Kosovo international some game time to aid his development.

A move to the Etihad Stadium would Riesgo link up again with City goalkeeping coach Xabier Mancisidor after the pair previously worked together at Real Sociedad.

Born in northern Spain, the now 35-year-old progressed through the ranks with Sociedad before making his La Liga debut in August 2004 after replacing former Liverpool keeper Sander Westerveld as the club's number one.

Riesgo then battled it out with Bravo to start after the Chilean arrived at the Anoeta in 2006, with the Spanish keeper eventually leaving for good in the summer of 2010 to join Osasuna.

The custodian spent five years with Osasuna, but struggled for game time and was only able to make 26 league appearances in that spell.

Riesgo then made the move to Eibar in 2015 where he was able to establish himself as the number one for the Basque outfit.

It now seems that Riesgo is set to move outside of his native Spain for the first time in his career this summer as Guardiola adds more goalkeeping cover to his squad.

The Premier League champions are also understood to be closing in on a deal worth £5m for Columbus Crew goalkeeper Zack Steffen.
