Zlatan Ibrahimovic is without doubt one of football's biggest personalities - and is never scared to speak his mind.

And that is exactly what he has done with his latest comments, as he criticised the quality of the football in the MLS.

Ibrahimovic is currently enjoying his second season in America. Having signed a new contract with the Galaxy during the close season, he has netted 13 goals and tallied three assists in 16 appearances this season.

But during a recent interview, the 37-year-old highlighted the gap between himself and the players around him in the American league.

He told ESPN : " MLS is not the level of Europe, to be honest. Before, I played with players either on my level or close to it which makes the game connect easier.

"Here, I am like a Ferrari among Fiats. And it can happen that the Ferrari can become the Fiat, or the Fiat can become the Ferrari. I had the same issue with the national [Swedish] team, though not as much."

Ibrahimovic called aspects of the game in America into question, claiming that it lacks elements that allow him to perform at his best.

He said: "I don't accept it. I don't accept when the ball doesn't arrive, or arrives too late. I want them to come up to my level. All of this makes me slow down a bit.

"The game here [in America] could be so much faster, so much more tactical, so much more rhythmic."

His team occupy third place in the Western Conference, 20 points behind leaders LAFC, and the two teams will meet in the early hours of Saturday morning.

This match sees the Swede line up against Carlos Vela , his closest rival for the 'Golden Boot,' with the Mexican having scored 19 goals while collecting 12 assists in the process.

However, Ibrahimovic is focused on helping his team pick up results rather than getting distracted by the prospect of individual glory.

He said: "If the team goes good, you do good as individuals, but I'm not focusing on [the Golden Boot chase] As long as I can help my team in the best way, I will try to score the goals to help the team.

"That's part of my responsibilities, part of my job. I'm trying, but a race against him? That is not important."
