Barcelona took to Twitter on Wednesday to wish Philippe Coutinho a happy birthday.

But it seems the gesture from the club was hi-jacked by Liverpool supporters, who poked fun at the Brazilian.

Barcelona shelled out a club-record transfer fee of £142million to land the midfielder from Liverpool in January 2018.

The idea was for Coutinho to take over from Andres Iniesta, but things just haven't worked out for the Brazilian.

Since his big-money move, Coutinho has steadily fallen down the pecking order at Barcelona and struggles to get regular football.

He's been linked with a transfer back to the Premier League, with Manchester United a possible destination, as well as to France to represent Paris Saint-Germain.

Coutinho's relationship with the Barcelona fans is fractured too, with the Brazilian being jeered on occasion.

The midfielder made his feelings clear by sticking his fingers in his ears while looking in the direction of the fans after scoring against Man United in the Champions League this season.

Lionel Messi later came to his team-mate's defence, calling on supporters of the Catalan club to refrain from booing the Brazilian.

The majority of Barcelona fans have taken Messi's words on board, and many wished him a happy birthday on Wednesday.

But a number of Liverpool supporters hi-jacked the post and responded to it with images of their recent Champions League win, as you can see below.

One Reds fan tweeted: "Happy Birthday, thanks for the best gift you ever bought Liverpool (Alisson and Virgil van Dijk) Hope your back is alright these days!"
