Portmeirion Village is hailed as one of the most beautiful places in Wales , thanks to its colourful buildings, Italian-inspired architecture and dreamy coastal setting.

Usually you have to pay an admission fee to visit, but in celebration of St David's Day , the attraction is treating visitors by waiving its ticket prices!

Anyone who visits on Friday 1st March will get FREE entry, to kick off a weekend of celebrations.

Over 3,000 daffodils have been planted to ensure the village looks its best, you can enjoy complimentary guided tours of the village and land train through the Gwyllt woodland, and there will even be a preview of upcoming exhibition 'Dome of Discovery'.

Then there are all of the usual offerings from the charming boutiques, breathtaking floral features, tropical gardens and grandiose fountains.

Not to mention those spectacular coastal views and sandy beaches.

Feeling peckish? There are plenty of restaurants, cafés and even an Italian ice cream parlour!

If you visit on Saturday or Sunday, you'll have to pay the usual admission fee - £8 for adults but children go free anyway - but there will still be plenty of treats including special Welsh-themed menus including Welsh cakes or Welsh Rarebit in the on-site cafes.

It's worth noting that if you book day tickets online you can also get discounts of up to 10 per cent off.

It's not just Portmeirion Village which is waiving entrance fees for St David's Day.

History fans can get their fill thanks to the 16 Cadw sites which will offer free entry on Friday, from Tintern Abbey and Conwy Castle to the incredible St Davids Bishop’s Palace, right by where site Saint David himself founded his monastery.

The village also has 14 self-catering cottages as well as two hotels, Castell Deudraeth and the Portmeirion Hotel , for those who want to make a weekend of it.
