Piers Morgan has hinted he might not be hosting Good Morning Britain for much longer, ahead of the show shake-up in January.

The presenter made a comment during Monday's show that suggested he could be gone in January, amid calls last month for him to be axed.

Piers quickly brushed off his remark about not being on the show in January 2020, ahead of the show being extended and running from 6am until 9am.

He and co-presenter Susanna Reid were discussing a poll on the GMB Twitter page, asking fans to decide whether Piers or Susanna would make the best prime minster.

Piers gained more of a percentage in the vote leaving him pretty smug.

But Susanna was quick to point out something that left them both hinting at a possible exit ahead.

She revealed that as shown in the image, the GMB social media team had made the decision that Susanna would be better in charge.

Piers quickly responded that it's likely because he might not still be on the show in two months time, with Susanna also commenting about being a "remainer".

He said on the show: "They voted for the one they think may still be here in January."

Richard Arnold was heard reacting to the comment while Susanna pulled a face, before making her own remark.

Piers continued: "They always think long term on this show. Always looking after each other."

Susanna replied: "Someone who’s a stayer! Someone who’s got stamina! Someone who’s not going to leave at the drop of a hat!"

They then moved the conversation on, leaving some viewers wondering if a planned exit was on the horizon, or if Piers was simply referring to the recent petition for him to be dropped.

Piers had been trending on Twitter last month with the hashtags #FirePiers and #SavePiers battling it out.

The petitions began after Piers said he identified as a penguin in a rant about gender, sparking outrage.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
