District of South Dakota collects $3.7 million from cases in 2019

The District of South Dakota collected $3,725,183.70 from federal criminal and civil actions in the 2019 fiscal year, U.S. Attorney Ron Parsons announced Tuesday.

The total amount collected is 72 percent higher than the $2.16 million collected in fiscal year 2018 and is comprised of about $3.38 million from criminal actions and $347,037.51 from civil actions.

So far in the 2020 fiscal year, which began on Oct. 1, the District of South Dakota has collected $20.25 million in a false claims act settlement. In the 2019 fiscal year, an additional $69,526 was collected in asset forfeiture actions, which are deposited into the Department of Justice Assets Forfeiture Fund to provide funds to victims of crimes and for law enforcement purposes.

The U.S. Department of Justice collected more than $9 billion in total from criminal and civil actions in the 2019 fiscal year.
