Area volleyball roundup: Wagner sweeps MVP

WAGNER -- Wagner took home its seventh win in eight matches with a sweep of Mount Vernon/Plankinton on Monday in area volleyball action, 25-14, 25-21 and 25-13.

Wagner (15-5): Abby Brunsing put down 22 kills and came up with 12 digs, while Emilea Cimpl handed out 39 assists and Lizzie Tyler added 16 digs. Kayli Kocer also pitched in 10 digs. The Red Raiders travel to Parkston Tuesday.

MVP (10-7): Katlyn Briggs had nine kills and two blocks, while Shyla Tobin came up with nine digs. The Titans play West Central on Thursday in Hartford.

SCW 3, Howard 0

FORESTBURG -- Sanborn Central/Woonsocket picked up a prep volleyball sweep against Howard on Monday. Set scores were 25-22, 25-19 and 25-17.

SCW (10-7): Brooke Doering led the Blackhawks with 12 kills and five blocks. Trista White added 11 kills and two blocks. Kaylee White finished with 25 digs and three aces. Taryn Ziebart recorded 16 digs. Mariah Jost posted 13 digs and seven kills. Morgan Schmiedt dished out 19 assists. The Blackhawks face James Valley Christian Tuesday in Huron.

Howard (6-9): Kate Connor led the Tigers with five kills and five blocks. Piper Thompson put down four kills and Madison Kizer posted three kills. Emma Rudebusch notched eight assists, four digs and two aces. Kyra Shumaker recorded 16 digs. The Tigers host Ethan Tuesday.

Miller 3, Kimball/White Lake 0

MILLER -- Class A No. 2 Miller swept Kimball/White Lake in prep volleyball play on Monday. Set scores were 25-7, 25-15 and 25-13.

Miller (19-1): Kadye Fernholz led the way with 16 kills and 10 digs. Vonna Schlechter finished with six kills and 11 digs. Rachel Oligmueller dished out 27 assists and Madison Wetz added 12 digs. The Rustlers play Platte-Geddes Tuesday in Platte.

Kimball/White Lake (7-12): Alison Sinclair posted four kills, while Grace Konechne notched 10 digs, three kills and three blocks. Ryann Nielsen handed out 13 assists. The WiLdKats play Sanborn Central/Woonsocket on Thursday in Woonsocket.

Platte-Geddes 3, Centerville 0

PLATTE -- Platte-Geddes breezed past Centerville for a three-set sweep on Monday, 25-16, 25-13 and 25-13.

Platte-Geddes (9-8): Cadence VanZee had 12 kills, while Haley Hoffman had 15 assists and five digs and Taryn Starr had eight kills and five digs. Regan Hoffman also added five aces and Carly VanDerWerff had five kills. The Black Panthers host Miller Tuesday in Platte.

Centerville (3-18): Haley Meyer had four kills, nine digs and three aces, while Sophie Eide chipped in nine digs. The Tornadoes host Dell Rapids St. Mary Tuesday.

Winner 3, White River 0

WINNER -- Winner swept White River to win its seventh consecutive match on Monday, 25-17, 25-10 and 25-12.

Winner (16-4): Ellie Brozik had 16 kills and 20 digs and Morgan Hammerbeck had 11 kills and 11 digs. Mackenzie Levi handed out 24 assists and Addy Root dished out 11 assists. The Warriors host Chamberlain Tuesday.

White River (17-8): Karlie Cameron had seven kills and 39 digs and Caelyn Valandra-Prue had seven kills. Kelsey Morrison had 13 assists and Remedy Morrison had 13 digs. The Tigers host Colome on Thursday.

Highmore-Harrold 3, Wessington Springs 0

HIGHMORE -- Highmore-Harrold took three hard-fought sets from Wessington Springs in 281 Conference play on Monday, 25-19, 25-23 and 26-24.

Highmore-Harrold (11-10): Haley Husted had 19 kills and 15 digs, while Kassie Hale had 24 digs and Grace Knox had 11 assists. The Pirates play Wolsey-Wessington Tuesday in Wolsey.

Wessington Springs (5-12): Alyssa Grohs had eight assists and 11 digs and Grace Gran had 13 digs and three blocks. Piper Jones added four kills. The Spartans host Sunshine Bible Academy Tuesday.
