There are 84 Michigan communities with an estimated median family income that exceeds $100,000, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
The Census Bureau released its five-year averages for 2013-17 last week. Last year, 58 Michigan communities had a median family income of more than $100,000, based on the 2012-16 five-year average.
The Census Bureau defines a family as a household with at least two people who are related.
Michigan's median family income was $66,653. The median for all households, including single people living alone or with roommates, was $52,668. About two-thirds of Michigan households -- 64.5 percent -- classify as families.
Below is a listing of the 84 communities, which include 25 cities, 41 townships, seven villages and 11 "Census designated places," which are unincorporated communities.
Of the 84 communities, 27 are in Oakland County, 14 in Washtenaw, 11 in Wayne County and six each in metro Grand Rapids and metro Lansing.
