Kids can be kids and adults can be kids at a gigantic ball pit which will soon be located inside a Downtown Detroit high-rise.
The same people behind Downtown Detroit’s indoor skating rink, Library Street Collective and Snarkitecture, are about to unveil this massive plastic ball pit simply for people to jump and roll around in.
Called “The Beach Detroit,” the ball pit is an interactive installation by New York-based design studio Snarkitecture. It will be inside 1001 Woodward Ave. and will be free and open to the public from Friday, March 1 through Sunday, April 14, 2019.
Visitors will ascend a ramp before entering an all-white enclosure where the floor descends towards an ocean of recyclable, antimicrobial plastic balls. Two piers will extend out into the ‘sea’, allowing people to stand in the center of the space and watch others. There will be other visuals like deck chairs, lifeguard chairs, umbrellas, and signs you’d typically see at a beach.
“Snarkitecture’s work defies categorization. From museums, to public spaces, to retail interiors, the studio’s playful designs manipulate pre-existing ideas of how familiar spaces and materials should look or function," said Anthony Curis, co-founder of Library Street Collective. "Often transforming existing architecture to create curious and contemplative spaces, Snarkitecture has earned international critical acclaim for its whimsical, immersive environments.”
Hours for “The Beach Detroit" will be from Wednesday - Friday from Noon - 8:00 p.m.; Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.; and Sunday from Noon - 6:00 p.m.
