GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- It’s time for The Weekend Show - a show about things to do and great places to eat all across the state of Michigan.

Check it out exclusively on our Michigan’s Best Facebook Page here.

This week The Weekend Show is brought to you by BLiS Gourmet, known for its barrel-aged products and ingredients. (In the video you get to see some of the BLiS products while we’re grilling.)

Now, let’s go around the state to talk about events that are still taking place, and to also feature some Michigan’s Best restaurants.

Oh, and I’ll be camping this weekend. Find out where!

Grand Rapids

Two friends joined the show - Steve VanWagoner of the West Michigan Whitecaps and Lindsey VanDenBoom of Perrin Brewing Company.

West Michigan Whitecaps

Steve and the Whitecaps have decided to show Moovies From The Mound presented by Milk Means More!, a series of films you can enjoy while sitting on a plot of grass on the actual field. It’s been a hit (pardon the pun) with fans. Only limited seats remain. A couple days only 60 tickets were left for the 9 p.m. showing on Aug. 8 of “Jurassic Park.” Steve said they show “two family friendly showings per night streamed on the outfield videoboard.” Tickets are $35 per plot and include 6 tickets (plots are spaced more than 6ft apart). Parking is FREE! Also, fans are buying a spot for ONE(movie. If you want to stay for the second movie, you need to purchase a spot for both screenings. Get tickets now at fifththirdballpark.com.

Perrin Brewing Company

If you’re looking for a great restaurant and brewery not far from the ballpark, I would recommend Perrin Brewing Co., one of our finalists for Michigan’s Best Wings and Best New Brewery. Lindsey said despite the 50% capacity guidelines, the brewery has done well with a patio and plenty of seating for dine-in customers. They have more than 20 beers on tap, as well as a line of popular fruit-flavored hard seltzers. She said to look for the popular/seasonal Blackberry IPA later in August. I stopped in late on Tuesday to enjoy the Jai Alai, the popular Cigar City beer that is occasionally brewed on premises. It’s as great as ever. (Perrin and Cigar City are both owned by CANarchy, a craft brewery collective.) Perrin is located at 5910 Comstock Park Dr., Comstock Park, MI. 49321. It’s less than five miles from Fifth Third Ballpark Learn more about Perrin at perrinbrewing.com.

Joining us on The Weekend Show was Michelle Judd, marketing and business manager for Bay City Boat Lines. She said there are cruises Thursday and Friday afternoons, Friday evenings, Saturday evenings and Sunday. Most are open to all ages; all are family friendly. The Friday Afternoon Float, for example, offers the chance to relax, watch the scenery, spot wildlife and ask questions of the crew while you float downriver through Bay City to the Bangor/Essexville area. Concession items include light snacks, soft drinks and adult beverages available onboard. Adults $20, Children $10, Infants free with adult. Bay City Restaurants

Michigan's Best Burger 2020

D'Angelo's in Bay City is known for great pizza, wings, an extensive vegan menu and award-winning burgers. We tried six, and each one was spectacular.John Gonzalez

We love Bay City because it offers several great dining options. On the interview with Bay City Boat Lines, Michelle mentioned Krzysiak’s House, an authentic Polish and traditional American restaurant that was one of our Top 10 picks for Best Fried Chicken. Krzysiak’s provides the dinner on the Friday night cruises. It’s also a “must” stop whenever we’re in town. The restaurant is located at 1605 Michigan Ave, Bay City, MI 48708. More info on the Krzysiak’s House Facebook page.

Another “must”? Mussell Beach Drive-In near the state park. Owner Jacquie Larner has still not opened her dining room, but she and her crew have kept busy with ice cream sales. The food, though, is tremendous. Try the hand-cut onion rings, stuffed cheeseburgers, award-winning hand-cut fries and one of Michigan’s Best Coney Dogs! She is located at 3540 State Park Dr, Bay City, MI 48706.

Also, we have to give a shout to our recent search winner, D’Angelo’s in Bay City. They finished in the Top 10 of Best Burger. They also have some of the state’s best wings and pizza, and one of the most extensive vegan menus. They are closed this weekend, but reopen Aug. 12. D’Angelo’s is located at 1305 Columbus Ave., Bay City, MI 48708.

Stormcloud Brewing Company

Beer of the Week April 3, 2020

The Michigan's Best Beer of the Week (April 3, 2020) is Rainmaker Pale Ale from Stormcloud Brewing Company in Frankfort, Michigan. The beer won a Bronze Medal winner at the 2014 Great American Beer Festival in Denver, Belgian-Style Blonde Ale or Pale Ale category. The beer was selected by MLive.com's John Gonzalez and Amy Sherman.John Gonzalez

Also on the show I checked in with Rick Schmitt of Stormcloud Brewing Company in Frankfort. They were our 2016 winner of Michigan’s Best New Brewery. I’ll be camping in the area this weekend, and I wanted to know how the city was doing, given that summers are extremely busy for this Lake Michigan resort town. He said overall, things are well with cottages, motels and rentals at full capacity. But he has noticed a little less traffic, which tells him that people are social distancing and enjoying the natural beauty and nearby Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. He said the Stormcloud taproom/restaurant, located just steps from the beach, as well as the production facility space located just on the outskirts of town (with food truck), are open and busy. I’m looking forward to a mini vacation in Frankfort. Say hello if you see me. The downtown location is at 303 Main St, Frankfort, MI 49635. The Parkview production room is at 366 Parkview Lane, Frankfort, MI 49635. Learn more about Stormcloud and their Belgian-inspired beers at stormcloudbrewing.com.
