SOUTH BEND, Ind. – A Michigan man was killed and at least 10 others were injured in a bar shooting early Sunday morning in South Bend, Indiana, according to a report from the South Bend Tribune.
South Bend Police Department were called between 2 to 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 23 to Kelly’s Pub, 1150 E. Mishawaka Ave.
The man killed was identified as 27-year-old Brandon Williams of Niles, Michigan, according to the South Bend Tribune.
At least eight other people were sent to the hospital with gunshot wounds.
St. Joseph County Police were also called to the scene to assist with crowd control at Memorial Hospital, located at 615 N Michigan St, in South Bend.
A statement from St. Joseph Sheriff William Redman said a crowd of more than 100 “upset and angry citizens” came to the hospital following the shooting. The crowds led to a lockdown at the hospital, the release reads.
Redman called for community peace following the shooting in his statement.
“I strongly encourage the citizens of St. Joseph County to continue meeting peacefully and voice their concerns peacefully, and not with acts of violence,” the release reads. “...The problem will only get better when law enforcement and our community work together, and I am committed to doing just this.”
