Woman, 92, killed in crash with teen in Northern Michigan

BENZIE COUNTY, MI -- A 92-year-old woman was killed over the weekend after being involved in a two-vehicle crash in Benzie County.

State police identified the deceased driver as Ardith Jones of Beulah, Michigan.

The crash occurred around 1:18 p.m. Sunday, June 23, on S. Marshall Road, south of Narrow Gauge Road, in Homestead Township.

Police said Jones’ 2001 Buick Regal was turning left out of a private drive and onto South Marshall when a Jeep Cherokee came over the hill and struck the Buick, in the southbound lane, on the driver’s side.

The 16-year-old driver of the Jeep attempted to stop but was unsuccessful, according to police. The driver suffered minor injuries but did not require additional medical treatment.

Police said alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation by state police.
