ALBION, MI – Albion College has named a new vice president for enrollment management.

Hernan Bucheli assumes his duties Oct. 1assumes his duties Oct. 1, according to a news release. He succeeds Steve Klein, who retired earlier this year.

Bucheli comes to Albion from Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, Calif., where he most recently served as provost and senior vice president. But his previous 20 years in higher education has been focused on enrollment management, the release said.

Bucheli also has served as vice provost for enrollment and communications at St. Mary’s College in Moraga, Calif.; vice president of enrollment and external affairs at Notre Dame de Namur; assistant vice chancellor for enrollment and student affairs at Chapman University in Orange, Calif.; system-wide director of enrollment management at Alliant University in San Diego, Calif.; and assistant director of admissions at Barry University in Miami, Fla.

“Throughout my career, I have focused on providing access to quality education for students to enroll in higher education institutions,” Bucheli said in the release. “I lived it as a first-generation college student myself and that’s what drives me.”

Bucheli, who was born in Ecuador, grew up in rural Clear Lake, Calif., and was a first-generation student, earning his bachelor’s degree in international relations from San Francisco State University, his master’s degree in communication from Barry University and his doctorate in education from Northeastern University in Boston.

“The pool of candidates was very strong, reflecting Albion’s growing reputation in the higher education community,” President Mauri Ditzler said in the release. “The search committee was impressed with his leadership qualities as well as his background in admissions reinforced with his experience in academic affairs and marketing.”
