Breaker failure causes fire, 4,500 lose power in Jackson County

About 4,500 people in Jackson County lost power the morning of Oct. 14, 2019 after a breaker failed.

Update: Almost all power has been restored as of 12:22 p.m., according to the outage map.

JACKSON COUNTY, MI – About 4,500 customers are without power in Jackson County after a breaker failed Monday morning.

Power is scheduled to be restored by 12:45 p.m., Oct. 14, Consumers Energy spokesperson Terry DeDoes said.

The Parma and Batteese substations failed, which means customers in the Pleasant Lake area and Parma Township are mainly without power, DeDoes said.

A breaker at the Blackstone transmission station failed during maintenance that was not supposed effect customers at 9:57 a.m., DeDoes said.

There was a small fire within the breaker that was extinguished before the fire department arrived, DeDoes said.

Crews are working to restore power as soon as possible, he said.
