JACKSON COUNTY, MI — There are no rides, games or animals, but you still can get your favorite fair foods at the Jackson County Fairgrounds this weekend.
This year’s fair has been canceled due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, but fair officials are offering a drive-through Fair Food Rally Friday and Saturday, Aug. 7-8 at the Jackson County Fairgrounds/Keeley Park, 200 W. Ganson St.
Hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free. Gates will close promptly, but vendors will serve until the last car is through.
Jackson County Fair canceled for first time in more than a century because of COVID-19
The food rally allows patrons to stay in their vehicles and order and pickup whatever they please from vendor stations. This is the second fair food rally of the summer, the first being a very popular event in June.
This time, though, organizers said they have changed the flow of traffic to the infield and are allowing people to pull out of line to park and get their food to help speed up the lines.
This event supports the vendors, who have lost out on a lot of business with the cancellation of fairs everywhere in the state, Jackson County Fair Manager Denise Owens said.
“It bodes really well (for vendors),” Owens said. “People are thinking about fair food right now anyway. It gives them a sense that fairs are back.”
Vendors at this event include the Boy Scouts of Spring Arbor, Fiske Fries, Stu’s Concessions and Mary’s Ears.
