BATTLE CREEK, MI -- The Calhoun County Health Department confirmed two inmates at the Calhoun County Jail have been diagnosed with the mumps, according to the Associated Press. However, other than the inmates in the jail, no other cases have been confirmed in the county.

The Battle Creek Enquirer reports inmates who came in contact with the two who have confirmed cases were segregated from the rest of the jail population. Unvaccinated inmates who came in contact were also given immunizations.

Mumps is a highly contagious disease which can spread through coughing and sneezing. The AP reports cases of the mumps have been confirmed throughout the U.S. this year, including at Indiana University and Temple University.
