Michigan Cornhole Championship contest underway in Birch Run

BIRCH RUN, MI — The First Annual Michigan State American Cornhole League Cornhole Championship is underway in Birch Run.

The event began Friday, Feb. 21, and continues through Sunday, Feb. 23, at the Frankenmuth Credit Union Event Center.

ACL professionals are expected to compete along with more than 200 amateurs of all levels from across the state of Michigan, according to a news release announcing the championship.

Birch Run Area Convention and Visitors Bureau President Jerry Preston said the organization has partnered with Chas Tower, a director of the American Cornhole League, and Blue Collar Cornhole to present the championship. The American Cornhole League is the fastest growing cornhole sanctioning organization in the country, according to the release.

Cornhole is a popular lawn game. The objective of the game is to score points by tossing weighted bags into holes cut out of boards, similar to playing horse shoes.

Doors open at 5 p.m. Friday, at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, and at 9 a.m. Sunday. Friday night’s events included women’s, juniors’ and seniors’ divisions, Saturday will feature novice, intermediate, competitive and advanced divisions, along with a special Crew Cup event Saturday night, and Sunday will feature a Big Blind Draw with a $1,000 purse.

The Frankenmuth Credit Union Event Center is located at 11600 N. Beyer Road in Birch Run.
