Jackson proves it's for real with statement win over Chelsea

CHELSEA -- The Chelsea football team has made the postseason in 18 of the past 19 years.

During that stretch, the Bulldogs have won nine or more games on 11 separate occasions.

The Vikings have never done that, not once, but you couldn't tell them that on Friday night. Jackson controlled this contest for nearly all four quarters, rushing the ball at will to the tune of 51 carries for 320 yards and four touchdowns in a 29-20 victory on the road.

Jackson's three-headed monster at tailback, Exziar Edwards, Micah Cretsinger and Dakota Robertson, each recorded at least 75 yards and one touchdown in the effort.

With the victory, Jackson (5-0, 4-0 SEC-White) improves to 5-0 for the first time in school history. The victory sets up a date with Ypsilanti Lincoln (4-1, 4-0 SEC-White) next week and the winner will be in control of their own destiny in the league.

Jackson hasn't won even a share of a conference title since 1942.

Chelsea (3-2, 2-2 SEC-White) falls for the second consecutive week, marking the first time since 2013 the Bulldogs have dropped two games in a row. That was the only season during the last 19 years that Chelsea wasn't in the playoffs.

But coach Josh Lucas insists that won't be this team's fate and that his group is just a few plays away from being on the winning side again.
