It was a busy week for several University of Michigan sports teams. Men’s and women’s basketball, hockey, wrestling and men’s and women’s swimming were all in action, and most teams had successful weeks.
Below is how each team fared from Dec. 2-8.
Men’s basketball
The Wolverines finished 1-1 last week, with their first loss coming against No. 1 Louisville on Tuesday. They shot just 25.9 percent from the field in a 58-43 loss on the road.
However, they bounced back in a big way Friday, scoring a season-high in a 103-91 home win over Iowa to begin Big Ten play.
Michigan shot 55.6 percent and had six players score in double figures: Franz Wagner (18), Zavier Simpson (16), Jon Teske (16), Isaiah Livers (14), Eli Brooks (13) and Brandon Johns Jr. (12).
The Wolverines dropped one spot to No. 5 in the Associated Press rankings. They resume Big Ten play at Illinois Wednesday before hosting No. 10 Oregon at noon Saturday.

Women’s basketball
Michigan improved to 8-1 with a pair of victories. Against Syracuse on Thursday, it trailed by 10 with 8:08 remaining but rallied to force overtime. Fueled by a 9-0 run, the Wolverines outscored Syracuse 13-5 in overtime for an 84-76 victory.
Senior forward Kayla Robbins scored a career-high 23 points in the win.
On Sunday, sophomore Naz Hillmon scored 21 points to lead the team past Oakland, 79-64. The Wolverines outscored the Grizzlies 18-7 in the second quarter for a 12-point halftime lead.
They host Appalachian State at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
Hockey
The Wolverines split with No. 6 Penn State, winning 4-1 Friday and losing 3-1 Saturday.
Forward Luke Morgan ignited the team with a shorthanded goal at the 6:10 mark of the first. Freshman first-round draft picks Johnny Beecher and Cam York also scored before senior forward Jake Slaker put the team ahead 4-0 with 4:52 remaining in the third.
Penn State spoiled Strauss Mann's shutout bid with a late goal.
Morgan also scored Saturday to cut into Penn State's 2-0 lead, but that's all the scoring Michigan could muster despite firing 43 shots on goal.
The Wolverines are 6-10-2 and remain last in the Big Ten at 2-7-1.
Wrestling
No. 22 Michigan finished 16th of 32 teams at the Cliff Keen Las Vegan Invitational over the weekend. Sophomore Mason Parris won all five of his matches to capture the heavyweight title.
The Wolverines are off until Jan. 5, when they host Oregon State.
Michigan women’s swim and dive
The 18th-ranked Wolverines finished second out of seven teams at the four-day Minnesota Invite.
Junior Sierra Schmidt (1,650-yard freestyle), senior Miranda Tucker (200-yard breaststroke) and junior Christy Cutshaw (platform diving) each won their events, while Schmidt's time of 15:49.90 was the third-fastest time in program history.
