US national team midfielder Weston McKennie bagged a rare goal for Schalke 04 in Bundesliga play on Wednesday, connecting on a textbook diving header to break a two-and-a-half game scoring drought for his club.

McKennie's goal, the opener in Schalke's away trip to Fortuna Dusseldorf, was his second tally of the season and Schalke's first goal since the restart of the Bundesliga on May 16. He also happened to score of the Miners' last goal prior to the league's suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic, back in a 1-1 draw with Hoffenheim on March 7.

With the two latest goals, McKennie's Bundesliga career total now sits at three tallies over 70 games. His latest effort, however, was not enough to earn Schalke any points, as they conceded 10 and 15 minutes after McKennie's goal en route to a 2-1 defeat.

The 21-year-old McKennie was also the second American in as many days to find the back of the net in the Bundesliga, following Timothy Chandler's late equalizer for Frankfurt on Tuesday. In addition to McKennie, fellow American Alfredo Morales also saw the pitch in Wednesday's game, entering as a late sub to help Dusseldorf see the game out. The ostensible No. 1 goalkeeper for both Dusseldorf and the USMNT, Zack Steffen, remains out after suffering an injury in the lead-up to the Bundesliga's return.
