Sean O’Malley is making up for lost time with a quick turnaround on the UFC’s next pay-per-view event.

O’Malley on Thursday announced via Twitch he’s taking on former WEC champ Eddie Wineland at UFC 250, which is expected to take place June 6 at UFC APEX in Las Vegas. The promotion has requested the date and venue for an upcoming meeting of the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

A person with knowledge of the booking confirmed that verbal agreements are in place with contracts expected to be signed shortly. News of O’Malley’s announcement was first reported by Aaron Bronsteter of TSN.

Wineland gets the chance to return to work after being left on the bench due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. He was scheduled to take on Marlon Vera at UFC on ESPN 8 in March when government restrictions prompted the postponement of the event to May 16. Vera was rebooked opposite Yadong Song and lost a close decision.

Wineland most recently competed at UFC 238, where he stopped Grigory Popov via TKO to rebound from a two-fight skid. O’Malley extended his unbeaten streak to 11 fights in March at UFC 248 shortly before the sports world was shut down, earning a first-round stoppage of Jose Quinonez. It was O’Malley’s first fight since a long hiatus due to an ongoing case with the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) due to a tainted supplement.
