Dana White shuts down Jorge Masvidal title talk, insists Colby Covington is next for Kamaru Usman

Nice try.

After Jorge Masvidal stiffened Darren Till at the UFC London mixed martial arts (MMA) event last weekend across the pond (watch it), “Gamebred’s” manager, Ali Abdelaziz, campaigned for a shot at Kamaru Usman’s welterweight title.

Not happening.

While promotion president, Dana White, was impressed with the way Masvidal laid down the law, the wheels are already in motion to have Colby Covington fight “The Nigerian Nightmare” and settle their buffet beef this summer.

“Masvidal just looked great. He just came off two losses then has a big win over [Darren] Till,” White told Yahoo! Sports (via MMA News). “When Usman jumped over Colby Covington, he was on a win streak, looked incredible against [Rafael dos Anjos], who I respect. Ali doesn’t make fights, we do. So no, yeah, Colby’s getting the next fight.”

As a fan, I’m perfectly okay with that decision and would much rather see Masvidal show up for round two of his fight with Leon Edwards (video), which got started backstage at UFC London and ended with three pieces and a soda.

As far as a date and location for any of the aforementioned fights, that remains to be seen, but July typically has five-to-six major UFC events popping off in succession and that requires all hands on deck.

Stay tuned.
