Clothing shop opens inside Kress building in downtown Montgomery

It seems unusual at first glance. A local clothing and accessories shop has carved out a space at the entrance to a walk-through art gallery inside downtown Montgomery’s renovated Kress building.

Longtime customer Aretha Dix thinks it’s the perfect place for BeYOUtiful Boutique.

“It fits well here because it looks like art,” Dix said.

Aretha Dix is a longtime customer of BeYOUtiful Boutique through its time as a mobile shop.

The business itself isn’t new. Local resident Keiauna White has run it as a mobile boutique for a while, popping up at private parties and community events.

But now the boutique has a home for the holidays just inside the Dexter Avenue entrance, where it’s selling women’s clothing, shoes, handmade jewelry and some other unique pieces. Most of the things you can buy there are made by locals. Dix has handmade soaps and natural products for sale in the shop.

White works with customers to put together a trendy outfit that fits with their look. She said the idea is to offer a spot where people who live in the building, or who work downtown, can go for a quick, unique shopping experience.

Keiauna White opened BeYOUtiful Boutique this week inside downtown's Kress on Dexter.

“Sometimes we take it for granted that when we’re on other sides of town or in other areas that we can just jump in the car on a lunch break and pick up a gift for someone,” she said. “Our goal is to address that need for those who are down here.”

BeYOUtiful Boutique will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day but Saturday through the holidays. You can see more on the shop’s Instagram or Facebook page.
