The ultimate 'makeover': Downtown Wendy's razed, to be rebuilt

Downtown regulars watched late last week as crews demolished a place that was a fixture over the past two decades of change and revitalization: The Madison Avenue Wendy's.

But the company said it's coming back.

The city issued a permit January 17 to tear down the 625 Madison Avenue spot and clear the lot to Venture Construction of Norcross, Ga. Seven days later, the restaurant was gone.

The Wendy's on Madison Avenue in downtown Montgomery, Ala., is demolished on Friday morning January 24, 2020.

Yet, Wendys.com listed the location as "closed temporarily."

A company spokeswoman confirmed Friday that Wendy's has plans to rebuild. She said they will share more details about those plans next week.

It's along a stretch of Madison Avenue that serves as the entryway to downtown for many residents and is now a hub of construction. Across the street, nearly an entire city block was demolished late last year to make way for a 6,000-square-foot Circle K convenience store.
