Demarcus Snead was charged with second-degree kidnapping.

A Montgomery man, awaiting trial in a case in which he allegedly shot a man twice during a robbery, is now accused of kidnapping a 1 year old off his neighbors' front steps.

Demarcus Snead, 21, was charged with second-degree kidnapping following an incident about 9 a.m. Thursday in the 4400 block of Virginia Loop Road.

According to Montgomery police, a family member of the child called 911 to report that Snead, a neighbor, had taken the toddler from the porch and fled in a vehicle.

A 34-year-old woman was walking down the porch steps with her one-year-old nephew and another 2-year-old child, according to Snead's charging documents. Snead was walking up the stairs when he snatched the little boy, according to court records.

The woman said she did not know Snead, nor did he have any relation to the one-year-old.

The woman yelled at Snead to put her nephew down at while time he went to his vehicle and fled the area with the boy on his lap, according to court records. The woman pursued Snead in her own vehicle, but when his driving became too erratic she stopped and called the police, according to court records.

Officers attempted a traffic stop but Snead refused to stop, according to police. A short time later Snead let the child go unharmed in the area of Narrow Lane Road and continued to flee.

Snead was ultimately taken into custody, charged and transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility, according to police.

The child was reunited with family.

Snead was free on a combined $120,000 bond on charges of shooting into an occupied vehicle, first-degree robbery and first-degree assault.

According to Snead's charging documents, between 10:45 and 10:50 p.m. Sept. 15 he robbed a 38-year-old man near the intersection of Macedonia Drive and Woodley Circle.

During the robbery, Snead allegedly fired "an unknown make/model assault rifle" into the victim's Cadillac Escalade. The man was shot twice in the left hip which fractured the left femur bone, according to court records.

The victim told police that he was in the Macedonia area to purchase drugs when an unknown suspect robbed him and fired into his vehicle as he was leaving the scene, Montgomery Police Capt. Regina Duckett said.

Deputy District Attorney Haley Steelman filed a motion to revoke Snead's bond in the cases from September following his arrest on the kidnapping charge. A judge has not yet ruled on that motion.

Snead was given a $30,000 bond on the kidnapping charge.
