Montgomery police launch 26th homicide probe of year after man hurt in Madison Ave. shooting dies

A man shot in the area of Madison Avenue and North Panama Street has died, according to police. 

Montgomery police Capt. Saba Coleman identified the victim as 24-year-old Trevaughn Patterson. His death was the fifth fatal shooting in a week.

Officers and fire medics responded to the area of Madison Avenue and North Panama Street about 3:23 p.m. Thursday in reference to a person shot, Coleman said. 

At the scene, police made contact with Patterson who suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital for treatment, Coleman said, but died Friday. 

Police have launched a homicide investigation, the city's 26th this year, in the wake of his death. Patterson was the second person to die by gunfire after a shooting Thursday.

The circumstances remain under investigation and no arrests have been made at this time, Coleman said.
