A Montgomery County man is dead and his son has been charged with murder in connection to a fatal shooting, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Capt. George Beaudry said deputies responded to a home near Highway 82 and Old Pike Road about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday. Deputies discovered 72-year-old Jerry Scarborough with a fatal gunshot wound at the scene.

Deputies detained Scarborough's 35-year-old son, Keith Scarborough, and subsequently charged him with murder, Beaudry said. It was still unclear why the son shot his father, Beaudry said.

Keith Scarborough was charged with murder in the death of his father.

At the time of the shooting, there were other people inside the home who called 911 following the gunfire, Beaudry said.

Xarius DeWayne Johnson has been arrested and charged with seven counts of attempted murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle and capital murder in the shooting.
