Tyrone Rogers has resigned after seven seasons as head coach at Robert E. Lee.

Rogers told his team following the Generals' 34-27 loss at Central-Phenix City in Friday's Class 7A semifinals. Lee finished 8-4 this season.

Rogers said he'd been in talks with Lee Principal Lorenza Pharrams about the decision for several weeks.

Rogers, a former NFL defensive lineman with the Cleveland Browns, posted a 30-44 record and made four state playoff appearances as head coach at Lee.

"I didn't want my players or the principal to be blindsided, especially after a loss like (Friday) night," Rogers said. "It was really emotional. I just want to be able to take a step back and do what I need to do as a father and a grandfather. I've learned more from these young men than any other time I've been coaching."
