Great Taste award for Berwick Upon Tweed's Luckie Beans

Great Taste, the world’s most coveted food and drink awards, has announced its stars of 2019 and out of 12,772 products sent in from over 100 different countries, Luckie Beans was chosen for its top roast.

It was awarded a two-star Great Taste award for their Guatemala El Fogon, which means judges dubbed it above and beyond delicious.

Jamie McLuckie, founder of Luckie Beans, said: “From day one our focus has always been on quality. To win three awards this year, with one of them being a two star award, is testament to our hard work that we apply daily to ensure our customers receive consistently top quality coffee.”

Judges comments included: “Beautiful quality beans, medium roasted but with a view to great flavour development, a lovely mouthfeel, almost velvety”.

Luckie Beans also won two further Great Taste Awards this year. Their Peru Emmeline won one star with the judges commenting “Medium bodied with a light citrus finish and balanced acidity. Comfortingly reassuring with a nice mouthfeel”.

And Luckie Beans Brazil Daterra Santa Colomba also won one star. Judges comments included: “A refined flavour, easy to drink. Good everyday coffee”.

Judged by more than 500 of the most demanding palates, belonging to food critics, chefs, cooks, restaurateurs, buyers, retailers and producers, as well as a whole host of food writers and journalists, Great Taste is widely acknowledged as the most respected food accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers.

As well as a badge of honour, the unmistakeable black and gold Great Taste label is a signpost to a wonderful tasting product, which has been discovered through hours and hours of blind tasting by hundreds of judges.
