A former beer warehouse in St. Paul's West Seventh neighborhood is taking on a new life. After a meticulous restoration, a building that was once part of the Schmidt Brewery has reopened as a gourmet food hall with two dozen different vendors.

The market — called Keg and Case — was the brainchild of developer Craig Cohen. He bought the building in 2014 and preserved and restored much of its original interior from the 1920s and 30s.

"We have most of the original ceiling all the steel and concrete," Cohen said. "We dug down to the original slab and put that back in its place, and we also retained a lot of the cool brick and graffiti inside the building."

During Friday's grand opening, visitors ambled through every bit of the food hall's 33,000 square feet — with vendors selling everything from cotton candy, flowers, honey and pottery.
