India has entered the fifth phase of lockdown will remain till June 30 midnight. The state governments have issued guidelines easing restrictions in some aspects. The shops in Mumbai, which is worst-hit due to coronavirus outbreak in Maharashtra, have been allowed to reopen from Friday.
The Maharashtra government has provided lockdown relaxation in red zones including the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) with certain restrictions. Under phase II of ‘Unlock 1.0’, the state government has allowed all markets, market areas and shops to function on an odd-even basis.
This means that the shops on one side of the road are to opened on odd dates while shops on the other side on even dates from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The guidelines state that the shops will be responsible for ensuring social distancing norms or else the authorities will shut down shops and markets which fail to ensure it.
From June 5, the Maharashtra government has also permitted for activities related to self-employed people like plumbers, electricians, pest control and technicians. However, malls and market complexes have not been allowed to operate.
Meanwhile, on Friday, the Maharashtra government said it was mandatory for the government employees to remain present in the office once a week during the COVID-19 outbreak and failing to do so will invite a week’s salary cut.
However, the government employees who have been asked to report to the office more than once in a week will lose their salary for the day they remain absent. The notification issued by Additional Chief Secretary (finance) Manoj Saunik has asked all government departments to prepare a roster of officers and employees affiliated to them.
The order stated that it was mandatory for all employees to be in office for one day in a week, except those on sanctioned or medical leave or else disciplinary action will be taken against those who leave the office without permission during the lockdown.
