According to reports, nearly 100 taxis have been booked across the city. These taxis are to travel to CSMT, LTT, Dadar, Mumbai Central and Bandra Terminus.

The cabbies are said to charge 1.5 per cent more than the actual fare if the distance to pick up the passengers is too long. Otherwise, the fare will be the RTO approved one as per meter. Meanwhile, an increase in the movement of private vehicles was witnessed on the roads of Mumbai on Monday morning. The state government had earlier eased COVID-19-related restrictions and extended the lockdown across Maharashtra till June 30.

This came after Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced “Mission Begin Again” on Sunday night. On the first day of Unlock 1, the first phase of relaxations, slow-moving traffic was reported in some stretches of the western and eastern express highways. Traffic slowed down outside the vegetable market on Sion-Panvel road and other areas in the suburbs as well. As per the guidelines of the government, from June 5, all markets, market areas and shops, except malls and market complexes, will be allowed to function on an odd-even basis from 9 am to 5 pm. This might also prove to be one of the reasons for the increase in vehicular traffic as shopkeepers begin to venture out of their homes to revamp their stocks.

In addition to the Centre's guidelines for reopening in phases, CM Thackeray has also announced the phase-wise reopening of activities in areas of MCGM (Mumbai), Municipal Corporations of Pune, Solapur, Aurangabad, Malegaon, Nashik, Dhule, Jalgaon, Akola, Amravati, and Nagpur. In the rest of the state, all activities are allowed except for the ones mentioned in the prohibited list. Maharashtra at the moment has 70016 cases of coronavirus with 41099 cases in Mumbai only. Therefore, it would be interesting to observe how things pan out in another month as the state opens its economy.
